Today is the most important day of the year for me. Today is the day death lost a battle, and if death can lose one there is a possibility death can lose them all. Today is the day the grave lost its grip. Today is the day sin found out it has a limit. Today is the day all of our enemies realized they were defeated. Today is the day Jesus rose from the dead. Why is it important that Jesus rose from the dead? God wins in the end. In life bad things happen—like the events on Friday Jesus endured. Mourning is part of our story as believers in Jesus—like Saturday when we have to face our disappointments in the brokenness of life. But Sunday is the day God responds to our sickness, the injustice, even death itself. Resurrection is the ultimate display of the power of God.
Sunday is the day God showed off how much God He truly is. In the gospel of Matthew, we discover Jesus’ tomb was actually sealed. It was sealed with an official Roman seal which means only Pilate and Caesar were authorized to open the tomb. But our God doesn’t play Monopoly. He doesn’t follow the rules we make for each other. Caesar may be king, but Yahweh is still God and Tahweh does what Yahweh wills. On Sunday morning, the tomb didn’t just open; God broke the seal in order to signify to us that no matter who is against us, with Him on our side nothing and no one can hold us down. Sunday is God’s victory and this victory is forever.
Sunday is the 8th day of week. In Genesis, God rested from all He did because the work of creation was finished. God’s plan to create a new world began with the resurrection of Jesus. He continues to resurrect the dead situations in our lives, He continues to heal our diseases and mend our broken hearts. He continues to makes a way out of no way. He continue to offer life to people who feel they are absolutely lost. He offer another chance. On today of all days,
fear has no place in our heart. On today of all days, death may be a reality but today is the day death died. Those in Christ may die, but we will be just like Him we will not stay dead forever. Sunday is a new beginning for us all. There is new grace, love, peace, hope, happiness, comfort, joy, restoration, forgiveness, mercy—whatever we need we can accept it because it’s Sunday. Jesus is alive and well and He’s on the throne. Sunday is the first day of the rest of our lives.
Until next time, continue to stay guided by grace,
