A psalm inspired by Mark 4:35-41. Of David. August 24, 2021.
Time moves on—
Life continues on as the day wanes.
The dance of the colors in the sky signifies the close of the day and the deserved rest that comes with the night.
As evening passes away to twilight, my heart settles.
My soul is stilled, but my mind raves; thoughts bombard my mind all day.
At night the storm arises— the sea begins to riot underneath my false security.
Tossed and driven by the violence of anxiety, blown to and fro by the wind of doubt.
The ship I once prided myself in sailing fails when storms come against me.
Fear grips me as tightly as I grip the rudder, trying in my strength to steady myself in a storm I did not create.
Since I am not the creator, I have no control.
My mind knows that the storm is the time to be silent;
“Sit down when it’s storming; God is working.”
God is at work in every storm.
He rides the clouds across the heavens and with his mighty arm brings salvation to the captive.
With his right hand he wipes the tears of the grieving,
His steadfast love mends every broken heart,
His faithfulness illuminates the face of the hopeless.
Yahweh is the God of the storm.
He stands strong in the face of raging seas and untamable winds and speaks, “Shut up! Be still!”
And the elements bow down to him.
He muzzles my troubles when they scream lies at me.
He holds back the words and intentions designed to hurt me.
He ties his rainbow on the shoulders of every dying storm,
The symbol of his promise to creation.
What storm can resist the storm God?
Can anxiety stay where peace dwells?
Can fear stand in the face of faith?
Can destruction destroy restoration?
What sin can enslave me when God is my salvation?
God is a safe harbor for every weary ship
Sail in and dock; there you will find rest.
He calms our anxiety and guides us on calm seas.
There is a blessing in every storm if we do not give up.
Trust in the Lord—the storm is not a period in the life of a follower of Jesus—
It’s only a comma. There is glory after the storm.
Be still and know that he is God and beside him, there is no other.
Jesus, you are good to us.
Great is your faithfulness.
