In Time

A psalm of trust in God’s steadfast love and faithfulness. Of David. July 19, 2021.

Humans are not born after their time, nor are they ahead of it—

they are situated and niched in time;

in Yahweh’s perfect time.

In time God will perform it.

Do you not see it?

The fool worries and moves in haste

and does not consult the Wise One.

It is not wise to stay awake at night

and ponder the future;

lie down and sleep, for Yahweh gives sleep to the one he loves.

Do not let your heart grow weary of hoping,

for in time you will live to see Yahweh’s faithfulness poured onto you.

The fool does not trust in Yahweh’s wisdom and goodness,

but the righteous will wait on him.

Those who fear him anticipate his goodness.

The humble will be lifted up and their strength restored.

The wise can discern the time to sit still and the time to move.

Do not be afraid; in time Yahweh will bring his promise to pass.

“I am Yahweh, the God of all flesh, is there anything too hard for me?

When I speak who can not hear it?

In time will I not perform what I have spoken to you?

Has my arm grown weak?

Have my words fallen to the ground?

Have my thoughts toward you shifted like the shadows at twilight?

Have I given my Chariot to another?

Who else can promise and perform it in time?

There is a time for everything under heaven—

the time is coming when I will rebuild and restore.

I will build it, I will build it from the ground up.

I am the Chief Architect.

In time you will see it, in time you will inherit what I have for you.

I desire to heal you; come to the potter’s house so that I may mend your brokenness.

I do not desire to break you and leave you ruined.

Come to the well that has never run dry and drink plenty.

Come to me and you will find rest for your souls.

It is mine to fight and defend you.

Even the stork in the heavens know its times;

even the turtle dove, swallow, and crane observe the time of their coming; but my people do not discern the times.

Why do you worry?

Why do you doubt?

What other voices have you listened to concerning my promise to you, you of little faith?

Who was it that promised to you?

Who was it that came to you in dreams and showed you things to come?

Who was it that placed it in your heart?

Do not let your heart be troubled,

I am Yahweh, the God of all flesh, is there anything too hard for me?”

The Lord will be rest for your soul when you grow weary:

“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

Do not be dismayed at what you hear, for the Lord is faithful to his word and his people.

Trust in him because he cares for you.

In time you will understand why you wandered in the wilderness so long;

He has not called you to misery, but a future and a hope that glorifies him.

In time you will understand why you wandered in the wilderness so long;

God desired to know what was in your heart, whether or not you trust him.

Through brokenness and defeat, though hope seems dead, the Lord will lift up your head again.

It will happen in time—

in Yahweh’s perfect time.
